sorry that i havent responded in a while guys but for some reason the site isnt notifying me when i get a reponse on a topic even though it is set for that, guess i should have checked back before. anyway, thank you all for your advice, Jamie is on to something, it is when the male is out and it does seem as though what she is describing fits. i think i mislead a bit about her behavior, it wasnt dramatic and it wasnt as if she was depressed or angry, she just changed a bit, not much, but enough for me to notice it. i have seen these spots on the floor in various places around the room but only small spots. it defiintly isnt "leaking" out of her, she is very clean, and as you were asking Joanne, she is about a year old, she eats well, is very healthy, drinks well, and gets plenty of exercise, she utilizes her exercise time well. she hasnt been " spraying" lately so i honestly havent taken her to the vet, because as i said, she seems very healthy otherwise and quite frankly i havent actually seen her doing this so i am not sure it is her, and it doesnt appear in her cage at all, nor his. thanks again for all of the links and your helpful advice. i do have one other question not pertaining to this situation, in the winter i dont keep the heating vent in the chins room open because i dont want it to get too warm in their room, i have done some reasearch but i am curious about the temp in their room, it isnt cold but it is certainly cooler than the rest of the house, probably about 60 or so. is that about right or what temp should i keep it at? thanks alot guys and by the way, i put some new pictures up on my photography website, take a look, if you would like something in particular please feel free to ask, i have alot of photos that are not on the website. here is the link, thanks again everyone!!!!

Health / Female discharging ???

My baby gurl is a bit under a year old, she has been very healthy since i got her and besides an eye infection for a day or so, i have had no other situations with her. i also have a male who is about two years old and before the gurl was old enough to get pregnant, we either let them out to exercise seperatly or watched them when they were out together. Anyway, to the point, we have been letting the gurl and the boy get it on, so to speak because we would like some kits, we have a friend or two who are interested, we dont want to make any money out of it, just the happiness of a few friends. anyway, about a month ago, the gurl started spraying a brownish fluid, mostly on the walls aside of her cage but also out in the room during her exercise, i also noticed that now it appears to be on the rug in a few spots but not like urine, more like she was walking and....leaking.....sorry, couldnt think of a better way of saying that! the first time i noticed this, i cleaned up the walls and it seemed to stop for a few weeks, now i see it again but only once. my questions are, may she be pregnant? might she have a urinal or vaginal infection? i also dont know what to look for to see if she is pregnant, as i understood it, it is very difficult to detect a pregnancy in a chin. i am worried about her because it seems like her attitude has changed as well, she seems to be more testy to both me and her husband. i also dont know of any vets in my area who specialize in chins, any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

General Chat / New photography site is up and running
« on: August 28, 2006, 02:11:08 PM »
Hey everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that thanks to Jamie, who also put this site together, my site is up and running along with some other good news. About 95% of my pics are on the site and I have prices up along with information on the quality and availability of the photographs. Also a local art gallery called me up last week and wanted me to bring 7 of my pictures to their gallery to be judged for inclusion into an upcoming show. I took 7 pictures to the adjudication and they selected 6 out of the 7 for their next show which will be in early September!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whooooohoooooo, the owner of the gallery actually called my photography phenomenal!!!!! He made me blush, lol. At any rate, im getting noticed locally so get my pics at the low price they are at now before demand makes the prices skyrocket!!! LOL, im just kidding but please feel free to pass along my web site to anyone you would like, any help is greatly appreciated. One last thing, this is stated on the web site but i feel like it is worth stressing, to avoid anyone stealing my pictures and printing them out for themselves, all of the pictures on the site are only 400 pixels, now, the ones that will be printed out, the ones you would purchase are over 3000 pixels !!!!!! They are stunning in print. As i stated on my site, i guarantee that you will be blown away by the quality of the photos and if you are not, ill buy it back from you!!!! The only part of the web site that isnt perfectly running yet is the ordering form. If you are interested in ordering anything just use the Contact Me link on the site and include in the email the title of the picture that you would like along with the size, the prices are on the site but the shipping is not but that shouldnt cost more than a few dollars, i promise, ill get on it as soon as i get time!!!!! hehehe. Thanks again to everyone for lookin.

Cages / Re: How to build a cage
« on: August 02, 2006, 03:15:52 PM »
i have a bit of experience in building things of this nature, if i can ever be of any help, please dont hesitate to contact me at any time at BAMBAML19@AOL.COM good luck with your build, dont forget to take pics along the build and postem when your finished. The one piece of advice that i have is to research the wood you use, that is very important since they will eat any exposed wood they can and alot of woods are toxic to chins, i use aspen in some of my small projects, not a cheap wood but a safe one. Do your homework and good luck.

thank you for your comments, i took my pics in pennsylvania, colorado, florida, louisiana, jamaica, grand cayman, london, amsterdam, lots of places. i have always been very amazed by the complex structures and seemingly impossible beauty of flowers. i am just starting out in this hobby, a few local photographers think that i have talent and should persue it and that is what i am doing. i also dont have off of work very often as i do right now. whenever im laid off i try to take pictures, i actually started doing it as a stress reliever. Thankfully for Jamie, a wonderful person affiliated with this web site, i will hopefully have better site to share with everyone, hopefully i can add more of my pics. i want to thank Jamie so much, there arent many people out there that care anymore or are so helpful and i wanted to pass along my debt of gratitude. Thanks you and thanks to everyone who has looked.

hi again everyone, as you know i am getting married next year and right now we are both trying to find the funds in which to do it with. Anyway, within the past year or two i began to get more into amateur photography. I have taken alot of pics but mostly of flowers and insects, waterfalls, things like that, i have a few of landscapes such as Colorado and Jamaica and stuff like that. A few of my pieces were requested by a frame shop around here and i thought that i might began to see if there is any interest online with selling my pitcures. I do have a small free web page that i was able to find to post a few of my pics on, but they arent a great site and i am having problems already with them. But i figured i would post the site on a few of the forums that i am on and see if anyone liked them. As i said, i do have alot, so if you have any requests, i might just have it. I do have a local printer that handles all of my printing needs so if anyone likes anything and knows what size they would like, i can get it ordered. I have also made friends with the local frame shop and i could set something up if in fact anyone would want it framed. Also, if anyones knows of a site that is free that i can host my pictures, i would be greatful for the recommendation. Please feel free to pass along my web page to anyone who might be interested and dont forget to ask, i have alot of pictures that are not on that web page. To the moderators of this site, if you feel that this is an advertisement or if it crosses the forum rules, please delete it and i apologize. Thanks to everyone who looks and even if you are not interested in purchasing any pictures feel free to comment on the pics, a little constructive criticism goes a long way!!

Health / Re: possible eye infection???
« on: July 21, 2006, 09:20:56 AM »
thanks for the suggestion but i think i found a way easier and cuter solution. i just left her and he the big guy out for a romp and instead of humping her for once, he actually tenderly cleaned her and her eye, it seems to be much better!!! a true testament to letting nature take its course!!! he cleans her often but this time he seemed to know her eye was sore. after i put her back in her cage, it looked alot better. ill keep monitoring her and if it gets worse ill take her to a vet, i just didnt want to stress her out unless it was absolutly neccesary. Thanks for the info!!!

Im not sure if this is the proper place to post this but i have been having a different, behavioral problem with both chins, when i let them out, it is next to impossible to get them back in their cages without scaring them half to death and i dont like to do that but they dont respond to treats, they dont respond to toys, they dont respond to anything, though i guess i am partly to blame for this since all of the play houses and things i have made for them outside of the cage, they dont wanna leave them. Does anyone have any ideas or alternatives to chasing them around? Oh and any suggestion of picking them up is out, they are very loving and play on me and let me pet them and rub them but i dare not grab them, i have tried with all of the tail suggestions but to no avail. I also dont want to resort to the ol towel over the head thing, that is barbaric and inhuman and i dont want to do it. Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Keep those play structure ideas comin guys and gals!!!

Health / possible eye infection???
« on: July 21, 2006, 08:22:23 AM »
this morning i woke up and went into my chinch room to say hello like i do most mornings and when i took a look at my baby gurl, her one eye was swollen. i cant see any type of discharge from it or anything and she seems to be in good spirits and she isnt displaying any further symptoms of a cold but i am very worried. can anyone give me some suggestions or tell me if this type of thing happens some times? i would certainly take her to a vet but so far, the places i have checked around here dont see chinchillas. maybe someone knows of a site where i could find a chinchilla friendly vet. i am very concerned so if anyone has any ideas please email me at BAMBAML19@AOL.COM
Thanks

Hey there everyone, i just got back from vacation and i got engaged!!!!! We went to New Orleans in the French Quarter along the Mississippi, i proposed while the 4th of July fireworks were goin off!!!!! New Orleans is where it started for us, we both went down on a whim last year and so the 4th is also our anniversay!!! Anyway she said yes!!!!!!! yeahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
Ok, now back to the info............i am from Reading so im not really close to Pittsburgh, matter of fact i am about 4 hours east. As far as the size of the houses, if you are refering to the ones that are in thier cages, they arent very big at all, about 12 to 14 inches long, maybe 12 inches wide and to the peak of the house, maybe 14 inches, so not very big at all. Now the one i made for outside the cages, for playtime is approx. 18 inches on all sides and the tubing that i bought is 7 inch round tubing and my boy who is the, shall we say, husky one, fits just fine in it. Thanks again for all of your comments, i try to be original and do some good work, it is nice to hear what people think. Keep the ideas comin and ill post more pics of any play structures that i may build. Dont forget, im always looking for suggestions!!!! Thanks
