Title: Wood
Post by: ryeden402 on May 24, 2013, 09:54:57 PM
I know chinchillas like to chew on sticks and such. We have only bought petstore wood blocks and sticks thus far.  My question is,  what kind of wood could I get from a hardware store that is safe?  I would assume nothing treated.  But I would think pine or birch could be safe.

I just thought this could save money and go further.

Any thoughts?

We always use untreated pine wood. Usually we can find long pieces of 1 x 2 that have warped.  They will sell those to us for very cheap and they cut up into great chew blox.

Yes and if you want pretty colors soak them in unsweetened coolaid or freshie.

the bigger stores around here also have poplar, which is safe, but its more money than the pine. and just fyi, not all birch wood is safe...
