Title: Ferret Nation Habitat Model 181, 182, 183
Post by: FuzzieLover87 on September 29, 2011, 01:41:59 AM
Hi I am new to Chinchilla keeping and I was thinking about getting a baby around the first of the year.  I just adopted Jake who is 1 1/2 years old.  I would like the new baby to go in the same cage, so I would be looking for a male, but I know potentially that they may not get along.

So, my question is...  If you buy a Ferret Nation Habitat, whether I get the single 181 model with the 183 addition or I get the 182 double unit, is there a way to keep the separated instead of using the middle floor with a ramp and hole?  I just want to make sure if I buy a new cage that I will be able to house both chinchillas in it.  Whether they get along or not (we are going to hope that they do, but sometimes it just isn't meant to be).

Any help would be appreciated!

I have heard of people doing the same thing, and have thought of doing that for when I get another chin (I have the same type of cage). Please let me know how it worked out!

yes it is possible to do.

you can get the full bottom pan from bass equipment.  what i did was put shelves all underneath the pan to hold it up.  [does that  make sense]

:)  Ferret cages are for ferrets, not for chinchillas.  The wire on the ferrett cages is spaced much to far apart for a small chin, especially a young one.

You might want to check out Martin's Cages (http://www.martinscages.com/products/cages/chinchilla/ )  They make cages that are approiate for chinchillas ... ones that are safe for a chinchilla.  They are also VERY reasonable with their prices.    :::grins::

I agree Jo Ann, and the mess that comes out of the ferret cages it wicked.
I got one come in with a rescue, even had a 2 inch deep pan to fit it, but had to go around it with plaxie glass to keep droppings and hay in the cage.
