Title: Nervous new kit owner

Hi, my chinchilla had kits a week ago today and they seem to be doing well. they've put on about 20g each in the week and they're very active. They seem to be messing with their mother's food dish alot though, is it safe to leave it in the cage with them as I've heard proper food and overeating can give them tummy problems? There's nowhere in the cage that she can reach that they can't.
I'm also unsure of the correct flooring, I've heard mesh can hurt their feet? I have it packed with sawdust but is there a better flooring for kits?

I use solid flooring with my kits and shavings. you can put down fleece over the wire though. and as for feed kits start nibbling on moms feed very quickly that is nothing to worry about as long as you are feeding a good quality feed

They will nibble on food, this is okay. Congrats, you are doing a good job.

Good to hear I'm doing okay. Also just occurred to me that I may have a problem re-introducing Hank (the Dad). I wouldn't like to put him in a cage he couldn't jump around in but the kits are super at scaling the cage and I'd be scared they'd fall off the jumping ledges. I think Hank is lonely in the cage by himself though, he hasn't been as active since I took Annie out.

thanks for your replies folks, much appreciated. All 4 are doing well, Hank the dad has been reintroduced and he spends alot of time fussing over the kits, it's adorable!
Quick question, I got myself sorted with a fleecey material today for the flooring (to cover the wire). It's not exactly fleece, it's 100% polyester but then it seems to me that fleece is 100% polyester too, no? I just want to be sure it's safe before I use it, the kits are nibbling everything in site and I'd hate if I inadvertently put something toxic in with them.
