For animals that "eat" wood and rocks, caging a chin in a wooden cage is not a permanent solution.
Chinchillas can eat through vertical surfaces and will eventually get out of hers, if she so desires. You may want to start looking for a better alternative.
Who knows?
Perhaps she's screaming at you because she doesnt' like her cage after all.  ;)

A lot of times people take pictures with props.
What you may be seeing with the babies having non chin safe toys could very well be simply for the sake of the picture and promptly removed after the photo op.
I know I'm guilty of trying to find cutesy backgrounds.  ::shrug::

If you use zip ties in strategic places it will help firm things up. Try zipping where you have shelves that will cover up the plastic.
Another thing that really stabilizes a weak cage is an L-shaped ledge. Those are especially good for cages with smaller gauge bars like the Critter Nation brand cages.
