hi! i am a new pet owner! i bought a log thats made from alfalfa and honey... it says suitable for chinchilla on the label but i have been searching on the web... and i cant find any information about it...
-
A friend of mine uses alfalfa logs for his chins... from what I can tell, by looking at them, they're just like hay cubes, which chins love, only cylindrical. They're good for them, and especially good for chewing... However you also said there's honey in them... I'm assuming that's NOT good. Chins shouldn't have too much sugar, more than the amount that's in 1.5 raisins per day is too much in my opinion.
That's all I have to say about them. I'm sure others will have more useful information for you.

thank you for your advice! i went to ask the pet store today and they said it should be fine cuz there are very little honey in it! thank you very much

Pet Stores aren't experts- they are usually far from it. I wouldn't give any of my chins one of those even if it only had a trace of honey.
Pet Stores also sell chinchilla "food" thats nothing but treats and things like corn cobbs which are very bad for them. I wouldn't trust anything they had to say.

No pet stores are not the best for getting good advice.
I wouldn't leave a treat with honey like a log for 24/7.
They like loose alfalfa just as much.
Sugars are not good for chins.

thank you for the advices!! i took the log out and replaced it with just a normal one! cuz i see a lot of sugar crystals on top coat of the log!! thank you !! ;)

One of my friends used logs like that for her chinchillas, and one of them got diabetes. :'(

That's sad! I didn't know chins could get diabetes. I won't even put any sugar near Otis unless it's time for his O.R.A.D.R (One Raisin A Day Routine).

Soo goood to know this bc I have given Pico corn cobs before and he loves them. I will stop giving them to him though, but why are they bad for him??
