I had a big surprise from one of my gliders. I have 5 gliders total in 2 separate cages. My first cage is my 3 girls Lily, Lola, and Laila. Lily and Lola are my first gliders they are half sisters I got as joeys. :) Laila is a young female I was given because she was taken out of breeding for cannibalizing her previous joeys. :( So Laila came to live with me and the girls. I also have 2 boys Jake and Twitch who live in the cage across the room from the girls. :)
My Laila is a shy girl, so she never lets me see her tummy. On Tuesday Oct. 3rd, I got Laila out of her sleeping pouch and was absolutely shocked to see a joey(baby glider) hanging out of her pouch! I think my jaw hit the floor. Laila had come to me preggo. I was excited and scared at the same time. I called my breeder friend and Laila's previous owner to come over and take a look at my surprise. I hadn't done a lot of research on joeys, so I was nervous about messing with the little ones too much. My friend checked out Laila and found not 1 but 2 joeys in the pouch. 2 little boys. :) Laila has never let her joeys come out of pouch before, so we decided to cross our fingers and let nature take its course. I have been hoping that these little boys would make it, but with Laila's past history, I wasn't getting my hopes up.
I am very happy to say that Friday October 13 these little boys officially came out of pouch. :) We are naming them Lucky and Chance. I will attempt to get pictures of these little cuties up this week to share. They are the size of my pinkie finger. :)

I am so excited about them. I rush home after work to see them. :)
Mama wouldn't let me see them too much yesterday, so no pics yet. :)

Congratulations on your little surprises! The look on your face must have been priceless. Sugar gliders are just adorable. We thought about getting a pair of sugar gliders a few years ago and did tons of research on them. I'm not sure why we never did get them? Probably because the chinchilla population here grew so quickly!
Oh well, never say never......maybe some day we'll have a glider or 2.

Yeah. Gliders are fantastic. I really love my chinnies, but gliders give you that love back on a whole new level. It's so amazing to see these little guys who love and really need you. They want to be with you and crave your love and attention. They are so wonderful. There are a lot of gliders in need right now. Over at GliderCentral www.sugarglider.net, there is a Rescue Study going on right now. It's unbelievable the number of gliders out there. If you ever decide to become a suggie slave, feel free to ask me anything about them. It's funny, you don't own gliders, they own you. LOL :D

At one time I had also thought about getting a sugar glider but I never did. My chins have now took over my house and if I even talk about another animal around my husband he gives me a really mean look. :D

Oh my gosh! They are the cutest things I've ever seen!!! I soooo want one!
-
What gorgeous little babies! Are you planning to keep them? :)
-
They are soooooo cute!

Abby- If your interested in getting a glider in the future, I suggest you join a couple of the glider forums and do some reading. My favorites are AnimalCraze (http://www.animalcraze.net) and GliderCENTRAL (http://www.sugarglider.net). ::nod::
Thanks! I love these little boys! They are so sweet. The barely even crab at me. I would really love to keep them both together, but I really don't have the room for a third glider cage right now. They are supposed to go back to my friend who is my Glider Guru. :) I am still thinking of keeping one of the boys getting him neutered and keeping him with mom and the girls. ::silly:: They are 4 weeks old today, so I will see where I am in the next month. It's going to be really hard for me to let them go. :'(

They can't go into the cage with your other males?
-
No, my males are already established. 1 is neutered the other is not. My unneutered male is a boy I took in who had been rescued he is very aggressive. Males can be territorial and I'm afraid the young ones would end up hurt. If anything I would neuter both boys and put them in with the girls.

::silly::They are precious! So tiny! That's the first time I have seen a picture of one as a kit. Was she pregnant when you got her?
I do hope she will let these little ones grow. Maybe she was not as happy where she was before or was stressed for some reason. Something had to make a difference for her not to kill them this time. Is this her second litter, or did she kill more than one litter before?
I would love to have one, but with the chins we have, there would not be enough room. There would also have to be lots of research on them before I would think about getting one. (I still research the chins constantly ... there is new stuff daily on them.)
Keep the pictures comming! I think I will check out the two places you mentioned ... curiosity is getting the best of me. ::)
