General Chat / Chinchilla restless
« on: January 04, 2015, 09:52:06 PM »
My chinchilla is restless and she is jumping around and she's really hyper. I am assuming she just has more energy since its night, but is there anything I should do to calm her down? Thanks

I have heard rose hips are good for chinchillas. Does anyone know benefits of rose hips or if they should have them? Thanks

Q & A / Re: Chinchilla not drinking water?
« on: December 31, 2014, 12:31:11 AM »
While she's looking, try to tap it with your finger to show her that water comes out of it. Also if it's wet she will try to lick it and then as more water comes out, she might understand it a little better.

If this didn't help you might want to search some videos on YouTube that will be very helpful :)

Cages / Re: opinions about this cage...
« on: December 30, 2014, 06:12:40 PM »
Yes, wood is better than plastic but it kind of depends on the chinchilla. My chin doesn't usually chew on the plastic and she's fine with it. Plus she does in fact use her ramps and she has never injured herself on it. I think it the actual cage is made of metal, then it should be fine, since there would be no way out. However if it's made of plastic then I would highly suggest not to use that cage. I wouldn't risk having plastic in it especially if your chin isn't used to plastic and he may eat it. It's really not good to risk the chances.

It can take weeks for them to get along. You have to slowly introduce them in a wide open room so they have freedom. Do not force them into a cage right away. It can be dangerous and harmful to them. They may fight at first, and all you can do is seperate the fight. Once everyday, try to put them all in a room together so they can get to know each other. Do not rush into anything new too fast or they will get stressed and when they get stressed, they don't eat and sometimes they chew their fur.

Don't let them all together at once! This will stress them as well and it's not a good idea. Just slowly let two of them together in a room. Then let another pair of two. It's safer, and easier to manage.

I suggest watching some YouTube videos on chinchillas bonding with other chinchillas to give you some insight I guess that would be the best option.

I hope this helped!

Cages / Re: First chinchilla is this cage fine?
« on: December 28, 2014, 04:20:38 PM »
Congrats about your new chinchilla. That cage is fine for now, but I would suggest getting a cage with multiple levels and more space because chinchillas are very active and love to climb and jump. A multiple level cage with more room would be the ideal thing, but for the time being that cage would work. If you do use that cage, you might want to give your chinchilla lots of time to run around in an open space so they still get plenty of exercise.

I hoped this helped! Any questions about chinchillas just ask :)
