Cages / Re: Cage floor

Hey this is the same cage I have. Mine came with metal flooring and the bars underneath so you may be able to buy the metal platforms online?

Q & A / Identifying Gender.

Hey.
2 weeks ago I adopted 2 (what i thought were) Male chinchillas. They were called Mario & Luigi.

They've just become friendly enough with myself for me to be able to pick them up and when doing so I made sure they were males - I checked google images and to my surprise I think they're both females, but came here for clarification.

I've attached an image of both chinchillas - one is a lot smaller than the other and also has a lot shorter tail.

Thanks for looking.

Brilliant stuff!!
I think I'm going to need to do this to mine. Although the bit where the hay is in hours is also the bit that slides out is that right?

Would I be able to keep the metal floor on the bottom and then cut a panel out and make the same sort of thing rather than wood floor?

That electro water thing looks mental lol

Hey thanks very much for the tips.

This was when I first got the chins and the extra bottle has been removed, I'll post new pic soon.

I'm not sure why isaid the floor was plastic as it is in fact metal lol.. The level on bottom was plastic but removed this last night and installed new wooden one.

Could you possibly upload a pic of your cage GrayRodent sounds good!

Thanks very much guys, a lot of good info here.

I've changed their diet straight away and got rid of Charlie Chinchilla - and replaced with a good amount of Timothy Hay & Chinchilla pellets. I never knew about keeping the duster out, so good tips here also. Is it okay to feed them raisins as a treat, like going back in their cage etc as I read that somewhere else but not sure to do or not.

I also wanted to ask if there's any way I can train them to pee/poop in a certain place rather than all over the cage, for their own cleanliness lol.

(In my prev post about my cage being plastic bottomed - it's plastic overlay then wire underneath. Pic below)

Another thing I want to ask is about bedding - they current sleep on a wooden ledge, but have a wooden hut thing they go in to hide too, what type of bedding is best to get for them - as the previous owner had blankets down on the cage and they were very smelly and dirty.

Thanks!

Q & A / Am I doing everything ok?
« on: June 04, 2015, 04:58:30 AM »
Hey guys.
I'm a new chinchilla owner and have adopted 2 males.
Both look to be in good health, have plenty of wood etc in the cage for them to chew.

One of them is slightly smaller than the other but I'm not sure if it's fur or weight if that makes sense.

So far I've been cleaning out their droppings every day from the cage and giving them fresh food every day. The food I've got is the "Charlie Chinchilla" mixed muesli. They seem to be enjoying it. I've also got a huge 20kg bag of chinchilla pellets but haven't tried them on that yet.

When cleaning I move them to one half of the cage, sweep up the mess and go over the plastic bottom with anti bacterial wipes (non scented) is this ok for them?

I also change the bathing sand every 2 days.

If there's anything I'm not doing or doing wrong please let me know.

Oh and is it normal for one of them to have short whiskers (almost broken off looking) and the others to be long?

Thanks

Yep brand new.
My aunt has 1 chinchilla but I decided to adopt 2 as they were getting neglected.

I think I'm doing everything right so far.. I'll post updates when back from work later.

Hey guys.

My name is mark and I'm a new chinchilla owner. I have 2 males which are around 2 years old. I adopted them and they don't have names.

I will be asking for some advice and support in the next few days for my chinchillas.

Look forward to being here.
