Hi Gabby,
Welcome to the board!  Chinchillas are contagious!!  I started out with only a few and now I have 110.

 My best advice I can give you is if you are going to be breeding buy the best quality you can afford and please DO NOT breed pet store chinchillas.  Even if you are only breeding for pets and never plan to show, you still want to be sure that the babies you have are as healthy as possible with no genetic problems that may pop up later.  :)

Welcome to the Board! It's nice that you and your Mom are interested in Chinchillas together. How fun! If my Mom lived closer, she'd probably want to start a herd with me too. LOL  :D

Thank you for the wonderful welcomes. Also I got my Chinnies for a breeder who didn't want them, I don't know why. I think she didn't have the time for them. :angel:

::silly:: Hi Gabby,

Learn to say NO.

    I'm like Jamie ... started with 2 and now have 200+. ::outofmymind::

    Get the very best you can afford ... and take your time ... instead of buying 4 good ones, get 1 fantastic high quality one and slowly add the others.  As a breeder it must be your goal to get/do the best you can do for the future of the chinchillas you breed.

     Standard Gray is to all chinchillas as flour is to bread ... necessary to do what you want to do ... and gives the best results when mixed with the other ingredients!  ::nod::

      With your cats, especially, make sure they have all their shots ... distemper, cat pneumonia, is highly contagious and will kill chinchillas within 24 to 48 hours if they are exposed to it.

       The more you learn about chinchillas, the more you realize there is still to learn. :-[
