Title: Ebony Violets
Post by: Debbie.nl.ca on April 27, 2010, 11:22:36 PM
I just realized there was such a thing!!!

I always thought carrier.

So can you see violet in them?
Do they look different than an ebony violet carrier?
I couldn't find any pictures from a search.

Okay, I had just looked this up...dreaming of what kind of chinchilla I should get to breed to the one that was just born.

To get an ebony violet you have to breed an Ebony violet-carrier to an Ebony Violet carrier. Then if you are lucky to have one of the kits be an Ebony-Violet you will know it because it will be Violet with an all over wrap - no white belly. You can get a Light Ebony Violet, a Dark Ebony Violet, etc. The pictures I have seen did look a little bit darker than the regular violets, or seemed at least to have a darker face.

I want one.

She is correct.  Do a search for Violet Wrap and you should find pictures.  Jo Ann owns at least one.  I've seen the picture and it is stunning!!!

Awesome, so he's an ebony violet!!!!

My Oliver is a violet wrap, albeit he seems lighter than most I have seen.
His last daughter the 34 grammer is an ebony violet carrier.....or should I say poss. violet carrier?????
I also have a extra dark ebony poss. violet carrier male.
But there's no way to know for sure is there?
Or will both be carriers for sure?
So if I kept the 34 grammer and bred her to my extra dr. ebony carrier there is a 25% chance I could get all shades of ebony violets...right???
So ebony carriers look like ebonies, but the ebony violet looks like dark violets yes???? I mean there is a difference you can see yes?

A picture of my violet Oliver, no white belly. Is he light or normal for a violet?
He's the only one I've seen  ;D

There is no way to be certain if a chin is a carrier unless mom was a violet or a violet carrier also.   If you breed violet to a violet carrier all babies will either be violet or carriers for certain.

Violet Wrap is the same thing as an Ebony Violet.  The chinchilla could be anywhere from light violet to dark violet.  The telling sign is that the belly is also violet and not white.  :)

Your Oliver doesn't look light in the picture but it seems Jo Ann's is darker so I would call Oliver a medium based on what I can see.  But as you know pictures and computer monitors can lie about color.  ;D

I get confused by it all too  ::nod::
Hmm could Cinder be a violet ebony?
She is so different from any I've had here yet.
Could be an off color, but it looks like violet showing with the black.
But her mom would have to have violet in her back ground too yes?????
Gotta go check her papers. ::nod::
