Yes, that is actually the second level in the picture. I like the bottom because it has a pull out draw type thing so you can clean it out easier.

If you look in the bottom of the cage, that is hardware cloth.

Great news, everything in the fiesty ferret cage is metal AND the ramps are solid with little speed bump looking things, So other than the bottom of the cage, i think it is pretty chinchilla proof when you but it! YAY! But for the bottom of the cage and the second level of the cage, we took the smallest hardware cloth they had and covered them and it works great and the poo just falls right through. So it worked out great!

No worries, everything in it, including the shelves, are metal! Still trying to figure out how I want to decorate it though! By the way, Jose absolutely LOVES ::kiss99:: his hammock and he does not chew it! YAY!!!  ::highfive::

When I switched Jose's food, he was so funny. He figured out that he liked the new food better and would pick out the new food and leave the rest and not touch the old stuff.

Q & A / Kind of dumb question...
« on: March 08, 2012, 09:37:14 PM »
Ok, I just ordered a BUNCH of stuff from TJs chinchilla supplies (great store! ::banana::) and I just got everything (cept for the cage which should be here soon!). This is my first time having or using a hammock. Jose LOVES it! YAY!!!  :::grins:: Now, my dumb question is this, I know chinchillas can over heat very easily. Will he remove himself from the hammock before he gets to the point of over heating?

Ok y'all, I have ordered a fiesty ferret chinchilla cage for Jose from TJ's chinchilla store...awesome website by the way......Now, I need some ideas (and be specific cause I am new at this) about how to chinchilla proof the cage and how to decorate it. Remember, specifics please! Thanks y'all!   :)

I use the Fiesta Mix for my Jose. It's the kind he likes the best. He rarely would eat the Mazuri or those kinds. What I do with the Fiesta Mix is pick out all the extras like the raisins and bananas. I usually leave the veggie treats, oats and pellets. He will pick out the veggies to eat first before doing anything else. Then he will slowly eat the pellets, but he won't even think about eating the oats. I also, on occasion, use the hay blocks instead of just the loose hay. This makes him eat the hay slower and eat more of his pellets. On his loose hay, he likes to take a nibble out of a piece of hay then throw it down and get another piece and do it all over again! He's so funny!  :2funny:

Do you sell the wooden shelves to replace the plastic ones? Also, what should I use instead of the ladders that come with it?

I have actually already picked out an overloaded cart full of stuff from your website, including the fiesty ferret cage...  :blush2:.....I just have to push the buy button! Can you tell me exactly what I would need to do and get in order to chin proof the cage?

Ok, I don't know what to do... ::shrug::......I want to get my Jose a new home, but I don't know what to get. I want a big one, and I like the Prevue Fiesty Ferret cage, but I'm worried that it might not work. Does anyone have any suggestions or help??? :::(((

Has anyone gotten a hammock or a bed for their chinny before? I am thinking about getting one for Jose cause they just look so comfy. But I wanted to see if anyone else had any experience with them first.  ::shrug::

Is it safe to sprinkle a little baby cornstarch powder on all the bedding in Jose's cage to help eliminate odor?
