General Breeder Chat / In labor?
« on: April 20, 2013, 03:25:17 PM »
As some of you have seen I got a male and female pair last Sunday and the lady said she was 90% sure the female was pregnant and probably a month away from having kit(s). Well I am wondering if she is wrong because the female just started about 10 minutes ago laying flat on the bottom of the cage and laying some on her side. This is the first signs of labor right? Now she is eating hay and chewing on toys like nothing is wrong but I have noticed her scooting her butt some and looking down there.

Cages / Cage setup for possibly pregnant chin?
« on: April 17, 2013, 08:44:18 PM »
I just got a male and female chin Sunday and the female is more than likely pregnant. I was planning on separating the male and female as soon as I got them home but they are so attached to each other that I was afraid I would stress them out even more then they probably already are from the move. They are in a double level critter nation cage and right now it just has the ledges and ladders that come with the cage in it. I've noticed they have been bouncing off the walls of the cage though and not even using the ladders to climb up or down in the cage. With the female possibly being pregnant what would be a good setup for her?

Hi everyone I am new here and already own a male standard chinchilla. I am looking at possibly getting 2 chinchillas but not sure if the price seems really high for them or not as I don't know how much their particular colors usually run. The male is a mosaic and the female is a brown velvet and they are both under 3 years old and come with a critter nation cage. The female is thought to possibly be pregnant. Does $350 seem really high to any of you? The breeder I got my standard chinchilla from only charges $100 for mosaics but she is pretty cheap on them from what I have seen and not sure how much brown velvets usually run and the woman that is trying to get rid of them claims she paid $280 and $300 for them each when she got them. I thought I would ask all of you since i'm not too familiar with prices and don't want to get ripped off.
