Hi, my name is Andrea my mother just bought me a chinchilla for my birthday/graduation from college present. I have wanted one for so long, I named him Harvey. I have only had him for three days but he is becoming braver each day with his cage and me. Any suggestions for what to do, since I only have one chinchilla and I know they are best with others chins is there anything I can do to make up for the lack of a play friend? Thanks very much and I can't wait to check out the board.

Hi....Welcome to Chinchilla Club.... :::grins::
I have a lot of pine chew blocks of different sizes and lava bites in my chinchillas cages. It helps them with their teeth and gives them something to play with. They also like pieces of paper towel rolls. I cut the paper towel roll into about 3 inch tubes. They love carrying them and throwing them around. Have fun with your new chinchilla!! ;)

Hi Andrea,
Welcome to the world of chinchillas.
Yes do give him lots to chew and play with.
When you pass his cage give him a little scratch, they love it.
Talk to him loads, they do learn some vocab, just as they learn their name.
Sounds are great too, shake a treat dish, and just watch as he's gets use to the sound. He'll come running.
Tap his bath when your about to give him one, he'll learn that sound too.
It sure helps when he's not quite ready to get back in his cage.Tap the bath in he jumps and when he's finished place it in front of his cage and he'll jump in.
Sit on the floor with him and let him run all over you. Don't touch him just let him do his thing first. So much fun........
Congrats and yes pics please.

::silly:: What a cutie! I love that big fluffy tail!
You might want to be extra careful about the plastic bag he can reach and you're bound to eventually loose the ends of the cords from your blinds laying on floor ... he just hasn't found them yet! ::)

P.S. Harvey the invisible rabbit was 6-foot-tall and kept the only man that could see him in constant trouble! rofl
