Q & A / general questions
« on: March 15, 2009, 04:50:39 PM »
General information about myself and my Kumo (Cloud in Japanese), been with him now 2 months or so.  I read the forums here and an another chin site maybe 2-3 times a week to see new topics and research.  My chin seems to be a fur chewer which kind of sucks because I was considering finding him a mate before he started doing this.  To try and stop this I have changed his cage around and I try and let him out for longer periods of time, doesn't seem to be working.  My Kumo even chews right in front of me. Only thing I can think of is that he's use to having lots of chins around him and now he's lonely and bored.  Another question I have is, Kumo is pretty use to me now and outside his cage he climbs all over me and occasionally lets me pick him right up, but taking him out of he cage is another story.  He will not let me take him out without a fuss.  He'll walk up to my hand and let me pet him anytime I want, but once I put my hand under him and start to lift him he gives a little bark and twitch.   I Know that some chins just will never like to be picked up, but do you think he may eventually let me pick him up inside his cage?  I feel so bad when I have to trick him with a treat then sneak over with my other hand to hold him quickly to let him out.  The main reason why I cant just let him just walk out of the cage is because his playtime chin proof area is in the bathroom.  Do most of you pick up your chin even though he makes a fuss? Is that how he'll eventually get use to me picking him up?  It takes me about 10 minutes on average to take him out because of this and sometimes I just don't have the time to wait to trick him into letting me take him out.

Q & A / 2 Chins in a 30 x 24 x 15

I have Kumo who is a male black velvet , 4 almost 5 months old.  I've had him for over a month now and I am really considering getting him a friend (another male).  I'm a grad student who is studying physical therapy and don't have as much time to spend with him as I would like 3-4 times a week I let him out of his cage.  I know and have read that they may not get along, but am looking to get a kit from a local breeder.  So my question is should I "trade" in my cage for a much larger one, or should i wait to see if they get along first?  How should I go about doing this?
