Title: Destroying pellets
Post by: gasaraki03 on March 05, 2014, 09:31:32 AM
Ever since i got a new bag of Oxbow pellets it seems they always get destroyed and its full of dust and crumbles. Now that my 2 chinchillas are separated for another reason  i notice its the one the was recently at the vet a month ago. This chinchilla never use to do this and its also wasting my pellets more than usual. Is there a reason he may be doing this. They get chew sticks daily.

That doesn't look that much different from mine and I have no doubt my chinchilla is healthy. It may just be a crumbly batch of pellets.

Wasting... You mean he chews them into pieces, but doesn't eat them?

... Check his weight? If he's not losing weight, my bad. But if he is, maybe he's having issues swallowing his food...

Waste because i usually will throw away the dust of whats left which is alot more than use to be. His weight is fine.

Did the vet check his teeth?  It could be the beginning of a tooth issue making it hard to chew the whole pellets or else to keep the pellet in the mouth while chewing.
