Title: Age difference
Post by: chinny on August 06, 2009, 04:32:55 AM
Hi everyone...I have a young male born May 21/09..and a older male that I just got from someone , he came from a petstore..they had him just over a year. Is it at all possible to house them together ? If you think it might work.. how would you try them ?

Thanks

Do they get along well together?

Are you positive they are both males?  ( You wouldn`t want to end up with kits unprepared. )

Do you have another cage that will always be ready if any fights occur, whatsoever?

It should be a good possibility with one still being so young.
Set cages side by side for a weeks or so. Then cautiously hold the baby to the older ones cage and see how they reach, and go from there.
If they like play time together and dust bathing, then you can try letting them play together in a new or freshly cleaned, and maybe change around some, cage. It should be a neutral cage free of the others scent, and I find changing it around so neither knows the turf helps. They will be so busy checking it out that it will take a few minutes to realize they are not in there alone. So the more there is to play with or do the better. Make sure you always have a small tube or space for the baby to hit in, just in case.
They may just love each other from the start.
