General Chat / My new little guy
« on: May 06, 2007, 05:49:52 PM »
Here's my new little guy. He came from Furball Ranch, as a gift/suprise. He's awesome. Took me a week to name him. His name is Jinx and he's 3 years old. My very first mutation. A violet! Woohoo!!! I'm so excited! Can't wait till he warms up to me.

At the ranch.

His First day at home.

He's decided that he likes it here.

Health / Rapid Weight loss :(
« on: January 13, 2007, 04:50:51 PM »
I am having a problem with Chloe. She has had rapid weight loss. Her weights are as follows:

Nov 3  493g

Dec 3  489g

Jan 6   486g

Jan 11  474g

Jan 12  464g

Jan 13  462g

She is eating a little less and has small poos. She also doesn't want any oats, but she took a piece of bran flake from me and ate it. On Wednesday night she had stringy poop. It wasn't slimey at all, more kind of dry. Her activity level is normal. She acts completely fine other than the above. She comes out for play time and bounces off the walls and torments Berry like normal. I am thinking it might be a mild impaction. But I have no idea.

I took her to the vet yesterday, they did not do any xrays. They gave me albon which I'm supposed to give her twice a day for seven days, also they prescribed critical care and acidophilus. They did do a fecal and it was negative. The vet listened to her heart, lungs looked at her teeth (yes, I know just looking doesn't tell us anything about the back molars & roots) she felt her jaw, and put pressure on it. She said she didn't feel anything out of the ordinary, she also felt her tummy.

I plan on taking her back on Monday to have her gut x-rayed, but I was hoping someone here would have and idea, and be able to help me get thru the weekend. I am extremely worried about her.

General Chat / I am SO Frustrated!!!! and upset!
« on: September 15, 2006, 09:30:12 PM »
Okay so I have had Berry for 10 months. It feels like everytime I have a break thru with him, he takes two steps back! I am really angry at Vince too! He is NOT helping at all. To the point I feel he is being mean.

I am working on Berry trusting me, and Vince is so irritating. It's kinda hard to describe, but Berry on his free run time likes to climb up things.
We have this one corner of the room that I try to keep blocked off, but every once in a while he gets up there. The problem with him being up there is he could potentially get behind the tv, and I would have a very hard time retreving him from there.

So last night, I went to take a bath, and Berry was out, I asked Vince to just make sure he stayed down from the one corner. (I didn't think it would be a problem, he's been getting better with them) 15 minutes later, the bathroom door opens up, and Vince is dangling my chin from the base of his tail (like I do when I'm grooming him, but I support his front legs on something!!!!) He said that Berry was being "bad" by repeatedly getting up in the corner and he was going to put him back in his cage. Okay fine and good, but don't freakin' carry my baby by his tail! He wasn't even supporting his body, just dangling him by his tail, like a rat about to be fed to a snake. I want to cry.  Well, after I got out of the bathtub, I calmly explained to Vince that what he did was wrong, and that Berry is a rescue chin I am trying to build trust with him. Well he brushed me off, and said that Berry was a stupid rat. It really hurt my feelings. The worst part is he loves Chloe to death and will cuddle her for as long as she wants to, and he has never done anything mean like this before. I could hardly sleep, I had that image of Berry being dangled burned into my mind.

Today, Berry is frightened to death of me. Before last night I could approach him, and even hold him for a couple of minutes. Also before the "tail" insident he would climb the 5 foot cage and I could give him a "hand" getting down, now when I approach him to help him down he gets a spastic and freaks, and jumps.

I don't know what to do, I am in tears now. I was making so much progress with him, and I feel like it's been ruined.

Q & A / Food Question??? Help De-frosting.
« on: September 14, 2006, 05:38:59 PM »
How do you de-frost chinny food?

I froze 10 lbs of food in 3 freezer bags about a month ago. The reason for this was because the breeder that I buy the food from lives 2 1/2 hours from me, and that is a long drive! LOL. The last time I bought food half of it went bad because my apartment is only cool in one corner (where the chins are) So dumb me put the food in the pantry and it went bad, I had to make an emergency trip to the breeders house, luckily I discovered the food went bad on my first day off, so I was able to make the trip down there on the second day! She suggested that I freeze some of it to keep it from molding. I'm not a food savy person, nor am I good cook and I don't know anything about de-frosting stuff. I am a little bit too embarrased to call her. Thanks in advance. I hope I don't have to throw the stuff away, as was suggested on another forum. Any ideas?

Health / Change in poo size?
« on: September 13, 2006, 10:22:15 PM »
Okay, so I'm a tad bit mildly concerned. Chloe's poos are a tad bit smaller than usual. We haven't done anything different with her diet, and have not given her any "new" treats. The poos are just slightly smaller than normal. I noticed it tonight when I was holding her, any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do tend to over-thing and worry too much, if that helps.

Edited to add ~ She might have gotten a hold of a sunflower seed. I eat ranch davids sunflower seeds all the time, so there are usually strays here and there, I try to find them all before I let the fur babies out though.

Anyone out there in the Reno, NV area? I live in Reno. Doesn't seem like there are to many people into chins here. I moved here from Sacramento California recently.

General Chat / Beating Boredom
« on: September 13, 2006, 08:38:01 PM »
I think my chins are bored with their toys. Any suggestions for making them more interesting? I'm really low on cash right now, all I have are branch bites, lava bites, apple sticks and a couple of various Petco wood chews leftover from my last purchase.

The reason I think they are bored is that they have been chewing things they have never chewed before, in example the walls, cubboards, basically anything they find! They usually stick to their stuff, so I'm thinking they are bored!

Does anyone have any suggestions on making things a bit more interesting for them, poor babies!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaSd...arch=chinchilla This is a really cute chin commercial. For those of you on chins-n-quills, you've already seen it, I though everyone on The Chinchilla Club would enjoy it too. It's very funny.  ;)
