Thank you both. <3
I'm going to miss her SO much. When I first got her I had NO idea how much personality they had... she's just so awesome. :)

I hate to do it. I do. But its a temporary rehome... Does that make sense?
I joined the Army. I'm going to Basic Training December 30th, so I only have a few weeks left with her. I don't trust my fiance to remember to take care of her, so she is going to live with a friend of mine who has Chinchilla experience. When I come home from wherever they send me, she'll come back to me.
I'm in tears, but I knew if I joined the Army it would happen.
I know I haven't been around a lot, but I needed to vent about this, and I hoped maybe this would be the place to do it? I hope this doesn't make anyone mad, and I don't get flamed.

Well, the vet thinks she's in heat. There was not an excessive white blood cell count when they did the swab. Thank goodness.
Thanks all!!

He's the only vet in the tri county area. That's why I was wondering about what antibiotic to ask for. He said if I could find that out, he'd give it to me.
I cleaned out her cage and put down some plain paper towels in the bottom to better monitor how often she is peeing and pooing. I changed it an hour and a half ago, and its looking like the normal amount... and she is definitely eating the same amount she usually does.

Health / Yeast infection?
« on: August 24, 2008, 05:30:01 PM »
Pixel is usually a very clean chinchilla... Today when I got her out for her dust bath, her bottom was covered in pee. She's got some white discharge coming out of her, too. I'm pretty sure its a yeast infection. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Problem is, we just moved to a small town in IL, and there is not good exotics vet in town. The vet I work for is an idiot about chins and says they should get water baths, among other stupid things, like nuts are good for them.  ??? Those of you who have GOOD chinchilla vets, what should I ask for to treat this? How do I go about doing it?

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around much, I check in once in a while, but I just don't have much to say. Things have been crap since mom had her cancer surgery. It took a long time for her to recover, and now that she's having chemo, she's depressed and upset, nothing I do is right and she takes everything out on me. When she lost her hair from her chemo, I shaved my head because she was upset about being the only bald one in the family, and she's done nothing but tell me I look weird and that I'm stupid ever since.

We got another Chinchilla, a pink and white, her name was Snowflake. A friend of a friend had her and couldn't take care of her, we assume she was a pet store chin. We had her three days when she died, the necropsy said it was malnutrition. She hadn't even gotten to meet Pixel yet (obviously with the quarantine time, it wouldn't have been possible.). I feel terrible that her life was so short. She was only about a year old.

Aaron and I bought a car a few weeks ago, and we let my dad borrow it to go to the doctor because my mom had theirs. He totaled it, and the accident was his fault. Now mom and dad are saying they don't have the money to pay for it, and the other guy's insurance is fighting us tooth and nail.

I had a stalker who was recently caught and put in jail. I spent a week in Illinois on police orders for my own safety while they tried to catch him.

Last, but possibly close to worst, in my opinion, yesterday we had to put my fourteen year old Chinese Crested dog, Ted, to sleep. He had blood cancer and we couldn't afford the chemotherapy for him any more. I miss him so much already, but it was just his time, I guess. The other dogs are moping around about it. We did adopt another about a week before dad wrecked the car. Her name is Bobsie and she is a Tibetan Spaniel. She's very sweet.

Here's hoping I have the time and energy to get around to coming back here. I miss you guys.

Q & A / Home Grown grapes to raisins?
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:36:44 PM »
Has anyone done this? We have a grape vine that goes pretty much unnoticed, but it does make good grapes... small, but if we eat them they're excellent. We've never used pesticides on them, only soap and water mixtures to kill bugs, but I was wondering... Can I dry them out, like I do apples, to feed Pixel??? That would be so awesome, it would save a little money (very little, but still) and I think it would be fun.
Does anyone do this at home? Do you have any advice?

Hey ya'll. Merlin passed away this afternoon.
Don't know the cause, as I'm in Illinois, but I'll be home tomorrow for his funeral.

Rodafer- With work now, there's not much time for a support group, as much as I'd like to check one out. I hadn't thought of forums, do you know of any that are particularly good?

Chit Chat / Re: My mom has cancer
« on: January 19, 2008, 08:40:07 PM »
Thanks, Nemue. Sorry I've been on hiatus lately, guys. My mom is getting ready to go into the hospital to have the portion of the lung that has cancer in it removed. She goes in the twenty fifth. On the last PET scan, it had grown again. She'll be losing about a quarter of the left lung. She's being really brave about it, and I'm so proud of her for being so strong. Keep your fingers crossed, and if you pray, keep us in your prayers. Thanks, all.

I told my brother in law that I was attempting to do something about it and he hired a private investigator to look for the guy. They found him. He was sent to jail about three years ago on charges of child molestation and was murdered by another inmate right after the trial.
Good riddance, as far as I'm concerned, and I'm glad some other little girl was brave enough to come forward and say something. The one who turned him in was only seven. :( Poor baby.

Thanks, guys, for your concern. <3

Ah one of Pixel's favorite treats is shredded wheat. No problem having it on hand there. :)
