Does anyone else have a chinchilla with a spot?
« on: August 20, 2007, 11:50:26 AM »

So I have two chinchilla's Maggie and Stoli. Maggie tolerates being pet pretty much anywhere - stoked down the back, on her head, under her chin but Stoli really doesn't care to be pet except in on particular spot.

If you scratch Stoli's chin she'll stretch her little arms out wide so you can rub her chest, her ears will go back and her eyes will start to close and a few times she's made little chirpy, clicky noises. It's the funniest thing.

She HATES being taken from her cage or being pet on the back but in that one spot she loves being pet. I'll try to get some pictures. Anyone seen anything similar?

My chinchillas also love the occasional chin scritch that you describe, but usually only right after they wake up and stretch. Every other time they are more interested in sniffing my hand otherwise. Squeak doesnt care about being pet anywhere other than the top of the head or a scratch around the ears or shoulders.

My Anna is like your Stoli.  She can be laying underneath her shelf in the far corner, and when she hears me open the cage door....put my hand in...she comes running out.  She will stand up on her back legs and wait for me to scratch her under her chin, around her ears and under her arms...closing her eyes and tilting her head with contentment.  But if I try to attempt removing her from her cage she pees all over me.  I would love to take her to the SC Field Day in October, but I don't know if I will be able to get her out of her cage.

Oh goodness! I've heard it's common for chinchillas to pee like that but mine never have... well not yet. For such little people, what big personalities they have!

When I had to get Stoli into her moving cage when the bug man was coming I went to pick her up and she didn't run away but stood up and her hind legs and grunted at me. I had to give her a piece of papaya to distract her enough so I could pick her up.

Oh yes! ::silly:: Chin-Chin loves scratches right behind his cheek, under his chin,on his chest, and behind the ears.  And he gets upset if I don't let him climb on my arm or groom me.  When I open the cage door, or go near the cage he almost demands that I give him his scratches.  And he does that too, when you scratch his chin or chest, his little arms spread out so wide, and his head tilts back.  He also, when you scratch him on his cheek or ear, his upper body rolls to the side, but his butt stays still.  rofl

Most mine love the under chin scratch, some like their belly scratched too.
I also have one that hates me     :D    well she just hates me picking her up.I'll get srayed every time, and I've had her for 3 years now.
But my daughter can just take her out anytime she wants. Too funny.
Their all so very different.
