I hope this is in the right place!  However, I'm sure one of the nice mods will move it for me if it's not.  I am new to this forum and I just wanted to say hello to everyone.  I just adopted my first chinchilla on the first of February.  He is a standard gray named Raisin and is about 9 months old.  He's very sweet and is warming up to me quicker then I expected.  Currently I am finishing up college.  I am an elementary education major and I am student teaching with 4th grade this semester.  I will graduate in May.  I am excited to meet you all and know I will enjoy chatting with everyone.

Hi Jenni,
Nice to meet you.
So what made you decide on a chinchilla as a pet?
Be careful of their cuteness, it's very powerful, folks seem to become addictive Grin
I did pretty good going from one pair to 30 chins, some of the gals fell hook line and sinker and have 100's.
We would love to see a picture of your first chinchilla Raisin. yes

 Sily!Hi Jenni,

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Chinchillas!
My hat's off to you for going into elementary grade teaching.  You have your work cut out for you!

 Hello!

"Chin-a-holic" ... 180 chins!
(someone's talking about me again - Hi Debbie!)  blush

PS Please do not take the chinchilla in for "Show & Tell" ... they don't do well with loud or sudden noises.   Roll Eyes

LOL my kids are already bugging me to bring him in.  They are 4th graders so possibly they could handle it but I don't think I'm going to risk freaking the poor guy out.

This is my curious little guy.  He was wondering what the camera was.  I'm sure if I let him get close he'd have tried to nibble it.

Jenni
As a 4th grade first year teacher who just inherited a Chin as a class pet.  Don't take it to school.  Mine is doing very well, but the 4th graders are still very inquisitive.  Good luck with the chin and the teaching.

I hope you take that baby home a lot.  Since they need lots of playtime and they aren't really up during the school day.  I did consider bringing mine in just for them to see but I'd never have a chinchilla as a class pet.  About the only thing I would consider as a class pet would be a fish.
