Oh I just thought I'd mention for those of you who don't already know..........if you click on the picture above it will enlarge it for a much better view!!! It took me a good while to figure this trick out myself and I was always with my face up against the screen trying to see these miniature photos people were posting :-[ Also, in the "pin" picture above......... the center pin is flipped upside down for a view of the back of pin and the pin backing tack thingie! Only 4 colors are shown in this photo.

Hi there Jo Ann, Hmmmmmm, OK let me see here.....What are these little pins made of? This is just my interpretation of them, so don't hold me to it 100%! They are made of a goldtone metal and the backing is a goldtone metal tack kind of back. The colorful front of the pin looks like it is some kind of painted enamel like stuff and then covered in a highly lacquered clear acrylic coating. Or it may just be a very shiny high gloss paint that these metal pins are painted with. Something along those lines anyway! Anywho, they're cute as anything and really seem to be very nicely made for a nice price! I'm putting one on my jean jacket pocket and one on a hat I wear around to garden. I speak to Lani frequently and will ask her what they are made of to let ya'll know.

What colors have you all gotten? Just curious if there is a favorite! I asked Lani about the pins and what they were made of. OK, this just fresh in from Lani................she did give me permission to post. They are made from mostly polymers. Even the enamel is a polymer. For a tiny piece of jewelry ,there is a lot of polymer and surface coating science in it.
The making of the mold/die was the most expensive thing. It was $125 for that tiny piece. Even that was done by computers and CAD.
Then we had problems matching fur colors with Pantone colors. We struggled with violet and beige. Got the violet color correct after 3 tries. The beige is still too gold.. To get the metallic backing and wires, rhodium metal gives a lovely golden tone. Rhodium is used in costume jewelry as it looks like gold, wears well and is cheap compared to gold.. The enamel is very similar to your house and craft enamels. The only difference is the pin enamel is cured with UV, Electron Beam or heat. Many of your fancy pigments, foils and inks in print jobs are cured the same way
Lani If people are really interested in learning the technology and science behind all those enamel pins made, swapped, traded and sold, there was an article on the pin industry behind the Olympic and Disney pins. Big business when it comes to making, controlling copyright and then distribution rights to logos, designs and mass production.. Disney is the single sales outlet for enameled pins. Every 4 years the Olympic games sends the pin market industry crazy.
Then state or national flags are the next big them market.
Let me find the article. I think people might find the real story more interesting.

Hi Janice, If you'd like you can email me with your order and I will get it to Lani. Yes, I know she does take PayPal. I'll ask her how to do this for the pins since they are not on her sight yet.
