litter box training a dog

I'm going to be moving into my bf house in a few months or sooner. We both work full time can't really come home on your lunch break. My 6 lb puppy will be at home all day. I know she can hold it for 6 hrs with out going in the house. But 9 hrs or so is a long time. I want her to be able to drink and eat if she wants to also. My friend may be able to watch her for a day or so and I may take her to a dog day care for a a day. its just $5 a day! I live in ohio, and she isn't an outside dog and if she was its rare that it would be good weather to leave a dog outside all day.

The lady that gooms her said that we should get a litter box and put dirt in it and have that in the house. Has anyone tried this? Or the dog litter box? she didn't use puppy pads when I was house training her. Any other ideas or how to trian her to use a litter box? He also has 2 cats that are litter box trained.

i think i might of heard of that before, but i'm not totally sure.

what type of dog is it, a small one, big one.

you'd be surprised how long they can hold it, i personally wouldn't use those puppy pads cuz that will kill everything you have worked at so far.  use a crate.  once a dog learns to hold it they can hold it.  i know at six months everything isn't fully developed yet, well bad term, but you know what i mean, but thats still a decent age, i mean its not like he's just 8 weeks old.

but even when they are young, they learn real quick with a crate, i always crate train because they will not go where they have to sleep.  for the most part that is, i mean if they had diareah or something.. okay, then they will go...

bear was put in the crate the first night i got him, and i don't remember him ever having an accident in there.  i'm not saying i left him for hourrs and hours, but just pointing out that they do learn very quick when crate trained.

she weighs 6 lbs, about 10 months old and is a poou chiness crusted. She doesn't like the cage

here are some things you can try to get her to like the cage.

feed her in there, if you are playing with her tossing a toy for her to fetch, throw it in the crate, let her realize the crate isnt a bad thing.  you can also put her in it and give her a treat.  can't think of anything else, but they may work.

yes i have. Petsmart sells something like that. My groomer said they cost alot over time. She said to use a litter box and put real grass in it since its cheaper and dogs can tell if its real or fake. But i'm still considering trying it.

My sister litter trained her pup. A long low container bigger that a cat litter box, but she uses cat litter. She just got a new puppy and is trainer him as well. It takes longer that outside trainer, but if she is trainer for outside already it should be easier.

That's interesting. I got the grass thing and i'll have to see if it works.
