Littledudge:
Hey guys my girls have never been the cleanest and i know as a learned behaviour some just arent that good at keeping clean.
Problem is ive noticed one of my girls has a really dirty bum, like brown in her fur, ive tried to gently use a baby wipe but its not working. :'(
Is there any way i can clean her?
Tia

GrayRodent:
Slight staining is not a problem nor is it harmful in any way. If it's caked on and there's chunks in there this is indicative of loose stool and the underlying cause needs to be addressed. If it's caked on a wet wipe should get the worst of it but you are faced with a potentially life threatening cause since this highly abnormal.

Here are a couple of questions:
1. Are your chinchilla's droppings soft? Do they stain the floor of the cage they are on?
2. Is your water leaking in the cage?
3. What kind of bedding are you using? What kind of flooring is in your cage?
4. How often are you changing the bedding?

Littledudge:
It does seem to be staining, her stools are fine, dry as expected, there are no wet areas in the cage, she is on a wire base with wooden perches and platforms, i change the sawdust once a week. I just feel like shes become a mom and given up on her appearance haha! (jst like us human mum do)
Ah well maybe she'll clean up once the kits have 'left home'
Thankyou :)

GrayRodent:
I think you're fine. Probably, like you said, isn't grooming as normal, tired and preoccupied.

BLS Chins:
Just watch for any odor. That can be a sign of a pyo which is serious in a female. If it's just stains then there isn't anything to worry about. You can use a bit of corn starch in her dust or dust more often to help
