Vinegar

 am just wondering, I have read several place recommending white vinegar to clean cages and would like to try it - does it have to be white vinegar or can it be other sorts?

I think white vinegar is better because it is purer and won't stain.

I use a 1:1 ratio of white vinegar to water. I've been doing this for almost 2 years. Works just fine and it's totally safe and so cheap!

I use straight vinegar because the stuff in normal grocery stores is already heavily dilute with water.  It's best to use white vinegar because all other forms will leave a residue behind.  White vinegar has been purified to acetic acid and water.  The acetic acid evaporates quickly and the water second so even if you don't wipe it off it will just go away.  Vinegar can dissolve the galvanized coating on metal.
