#51 a healthy chin should have plush fur without bald spots, bright clear eyes, with no wateryness, firm but slightly moist poops and yellow teeth that are placed in a straight line.  It should also have a good disposition, be friendly and inquisitive, generally they will be cautious at first but should not be overly afraid.  Correct

#60 calcium deficiency causes tooth whiteness in adult chins. Correct

#56 chins cool themselves through a radiant process where heat radiates out through their ears, which is why when they become overheated their ears will turn bright pink or red.  Correct, but the veins in the ears will be obvious before the ear itself turns pink or red ... watch for the veins to become apparent.  JM

#58  I am just making a guess
           1) a parasitic or bacterial infection like coccidia or giardia These can cause dirrhea, but are not common, thankgoodness.  JM
           2) improper diet, like too many treats or sudden change in food  Correct and stress. JM

FYI:
Going Back to question 58...the top two common causes for diarrhea in chinchillas are too many treats and not cleaning the water bottle enough.  People tend to overlook the water bottle issue when a chinchilla suddenly comes down with soft poos.  The algae that grows in the bottles will cause this.  And sometimes the bottle looks clear but is still growing algae!  If your bottle opening is big enough try sticking a finger into the bottle and rubbing the inside.  You might be surprised at what you feel!   Shocked

Clean those bottles!!  A 10% Clorox to Water ratio is the best disinfectant there is!  We wash all of our bottles in Clorox and try to never refill a bottle.  If the bottle has been emptied by the chinchilla it comes out and gets washed in bleach before it gets used again.

(Word of caution using bleach (Clorox or other brands)  Remember to wash the bottles thoroughly.  If a chinchilla ingests a little bleach in the water on a regular basis it's fur will begin to get a orangy tinge.  Not a huge deal for pet owners but you can kiss showing a chinchilla like that goodbye! The judge will push it right to the bottom of the table for orange tinged fur)
