HARD poop
« on: December 30, 2012, 09:44:15 PM »

I just noticed that Snickerdoodle's poops are really, really hard. He pooped and I picked it up immediately; it felt as if it had been sitting there all day and dried out! He has been eating a tiny bit- a really tiny bit- more tissues lately. And the weird thing is I gave him a bit of apple today (I know it supposedly causes diarrhea but it doesn't for my chinchilla), and that is supposed to make their stool wetter! What's going on?

What does 'more tissues' mean? How long has he been doing this? The constipation is likely caused from not eating enough. Has there been any changes to his diet or stress levels?

How much is "very little"? Is he eating half his normal food? Less than half? Is it both hay and pellets or one type of food? If less than half you could have a problem. If it doesn't clear up by the end of the week or gets worse I'd advise a vet visit.

Also didn't you put him in a new cage recently? Is his food located in a place that maybe is not as easy to get to?

I'd say an extra square inch of tissues.
I think it's resolved. And no, we never did get the new cage. We're working on it though!

I'm glad to hear that. I know sometimes these things come and go without apparent reasons.
