He looks so sweet. My little girl wants a cat so bad but with the chins in the house and the dogs outside I don't think it would work out very well. We had quite a few cats that just wondered up but as our lab puppy started growing they all left.

Sily! When you have/get a cat and have chinchillas, always remember ... the cats must be up-to-date on all of their shots, especially distemper (feline pneumonia) and they almost have to be inside cats.
Distemper/feline pneumonia is VERY contagious and can take down a chin or even a whole herd in a matter of days.
OK, you think your chins are safe because the cat is up-to-date on their shots ... think again ... if your cat (or any of your pets) is allowed outside, they can come in contact with grass or anything where a cat with pneumonia has walked or laid down and can carry it back inside with them.
Cats, dogs and chins can get along, in some instances, but what you have to remember, is that they do not have to have something to be a carrier of it.
Years ago, we went to a major breeder to adopt some chins ... before we went in, I saw a cat and reached down to pet it ... the rancher immediately warned me "If you touch that cat, you do not touch my chins."  Then he explained why.
We had a cat for years, but it was strictly an inside cat and was never allowed to go outside.

 Hello!

Sily!
Jo Ann what would happend if you touched his cat?
It was not his cat ... it was a neighborhood cat.  Had I touched it, I would not have been allowed to go inside and see his chinchillas ... the 1,000 mile round trip would have been for nothing ... unless my husband had gone in and picked them out for us.
