Watery Eye
« on: June 03, 2012, 10:14:33 PM »

Yesterday I noticed my chin's eye on the right side was more watery than his left. Today I noticed where it looked like tears had fallen around his eye. Hopefully the picture helps give you an idea. (I can take another or upload a larger one if needed!) No discharge around his eye, just very watery. I have stopped giving him dustbaths, but wonder if there is anything else I need to do.

Thanks :)

Sometimes dust will cause this.  If you feed loose hay a chinchilla will occasionally stick itself in the eye with a tip of it by accident.  If it is gone or almost better today you can assume it was a minor irritation.  If it hasn't improved today it could be an infection that will need special meds.  You will need to make an appointment with your vet.

Thanks Jamie! It looks much better, still Looks a little more watery than his other eye but no tears seemed to be on his fur today. I do feed loose hay and he tends to roll in it so thats probably what happened!
