After 6 years of treating his malocclusion I had to let him go.
He was 5 when I got him in 2000, and I was his 3d owner.
His trims started about a year after I got him.He was down to 3 per year.
He had several bouts over the years when he would loose half his body weight, spend weeks being syringe fed, and several times I had said this was the last trim.
Wednesday night he was just too sick, and we decided it was enough.
Cody was my chinchilla hero, he taught me so much over the years.
I will miss him terribly.

hugs Debbie, I am so sorry to hear that!  I know you will miss him terribly.  so sad  He's in chinnie heaven and is playing freely. (Yes, I do believe that God has a place for every creature, not just humans.)
We have Toofie, a beige kit, almost 10 months old, now. Toofie was kept alive by his mom for 4 months while I was in the hospital. His story is on another thread.
It's hard when we have to let one go, especially when they needed constant care ... that brings them so much closer to us and makes the bond even stronger.

Cry  Debbie,  I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  You are an excellent chinnie momma, giving Cody lots of love and doing everything you could for him for all of those years.  He had a good life with you and got the care he needed.  Now he is care free in Chinnie Heaven with my little white ebony William and I'm sure they are good friends already.

Thanks everyone.
I'm still getting filled up, just reading. so sad
I do know that only you guys can understand how a little furball can touch your heart, and hold it fast in their little paws.
I have felt your pains, and I know you can feel mine, and are wiping my tears.
I loved him so very much so sad

May be we cannot understand your pain, but Cody does. Cody will know how you loved him and he will be happy in the heaven. He will be very happy to meet such a good mother like you.

I know how much you loved Cody and how close all of his care must have brought you two. I feel your pain. I lost my Billy to the same problem. I even took him to two other states for exotic vet care many many times. JoAnn was kind enough to post my poem to Billy in this same memorial section. Please read the poem "Chinchilla in a Locket" and let it comfort you. Cody and Billy are waiting at the end of the Rainbow Bridge.

Cool that was your poem.
I've read it and filled up.
I still miss Cody, as I'm sure you miss Billy.
It took me months to put another in his cage.
They will live forever in our hearts.
