48. When testing for Giardia, should you take feces samples and/or the chin to the vet?

Not only am I getting the answer to this question from Lani's site BUT, I am speaking also from experience!

When testing for Giardia you MUST take the chinchilla along to the vet with you, not just his/her feces sample.  The vet must get the feces very fresh as soon as it drops out of the chinchilla and the sample must be looked at right away within about 2 minutes time to be able to see the live moving Giardia parasite.  Have your chinchilla's stool checked under the microscope for Giardia and Coccidia as a wet mount, remember the stool must be fresh.  Correct!
