Is this normal?

When I feed Roo he eats all but 2 or 3 pellets, but when I feed Buddy he has a good many broken up pellets in the bottom of the cage. I know he is eating some of it but I am wondering if maybe he just don't like the brand or something. They are on the Kline pellets and Buddy get about 1/4 tsp. of the supplement every other day and he eats every little piece of that. Roo gets a little pinch very few days because it gives him soft poop if he gets any more than that.

I just need to know what ya think about Buddy having the broken up pellets.

Watch him eat.  Sometimes chinchillas are picky.  They will pick up a piece, take a bite and then throw it back looking for something better.  That may be what he is doing.

I have several that are very neat and eat over their bowl, allowing the crumbs to fall into the bowl.  Often I think they have a 1/4 of a bowl of pellets, only to find out most of it is crumbs.

Yes. Daisy will only eat certain pieces of food, but some she'll scuff down!

Berry does the same thing, and sometimes he will dig until he finds the "perfect" piece. Chins are so weird! LOL

Chinpo is the same way very picky, Ping not so much.

I put my food in a dish on a wooden shelf so if they are dropping food, it will just be scattered around the food bowl (it doesn't fall through the wire bottom of the cage).  They usually go back to it eventually when the pickings are slim in the dish.

You might want to have a look at his incisors and see if they are straight across, and nice and orange.
Some chins with teeth trouble will leave a lot of broken pellets as well, in the beginning.Then they stop eating all together.
Just something to watch for, I have some picky eaters myself.

I read that some where and they look good to me. I was thinking if it what his teeth he would not be chewing as much, but he is chewing his house and all his chew toys with no problem. He also eats a lot of hay, and his hay cubes. I just think he don't care to much for his pellets.
