I am not new to owning a chinchilla, but my current baby (about 5-6 months) chinchilla is having trouble peeing in her wood chips.  She goes there about 85% of the time, but when she doesn't, it's always in 3 other places in her cage and I can't figure out how to finish training her.  I've tried everything from treats to reward her to soaking up her pee with wood chips and putting it where she needs to go but it's very frustrating to find her mess every morning and night. Any advice?Huh

when you first start training them, you need to put litter boxes every place they pee in the cage... then slowly remove one by one until you get down to one...

chinclub: she pees everywhere...from my hardwood floor, to my bed, to everywhere in her plastic cage.

jmdebb: so just put wood chips everywhere she seems to be peeing? I've never had to potty train a chinchilla before...thank you!
any more advice would be appreciated!

put the bedding in some sort of dish or something, not just on the floor, but yes in all three spots she pees in.. let her get used to going in the litter boxes, then take one out,,... then after she's doing well for awhile, take another one out..etc..

You might not want her in a plastic cage. If she chews on it which is likely, it could get lodged in her gi tract.  As for potty training them, I never attempted but heard it could be done when it comes to urination.
