When my chin is resting....not really sleeping....he makes noises about five to seven in a row. It sounds like he was almost coughing maybe whimpering or the cat having trouble with a hairball. That is the best way I can explain it. What does this mean??? Thanks Roll Eyes

How long have you had him? I'm guessing he is either calling out for any other chinchillas if he is new, or it could be a distress call if he is new or if something has recently changed in your house.

He is about ten years old. I received him at the end of October. The only thing that changed was his surrondings....I moved his super sleeper and other stuff around in his cage but put everything back the way it was shortly after. Is he lonely??? Nothing else has changed....he also sleeps until late at night...10pm maybe then starts the shananagans, lol. Thanks again Huh

It sounds like you are describing the warning barks.  They make this sound when they are alarmed about something. It could be a car door being slammed outside or animals outside that are being heard.
