I live in Las Vegas and since 2 month I have this animal living in my rocks above my whirlpool. I'm wondering if this is a chinchilla.
I asked some people, but everybody had a different opinion.

It is certainly not a chinchilla. It looks like a mouse to me.

It isn't a chinchilla because it has a rat/mouse tail.  It sure looks like one at first glance though!  How big is it.  Could it be a degu?

i think it may be a blue degu? i have degus and they look similar but are brown/ginger, i know there are blue ones but have never seen one so not entirely sure what they look like. would you have a picture that shows the end of the tail?

Looks like a deer mouse. It has a bi-colored tail which is a distinguishing feature.

My brother lives in Fallon NV and he said it was a kangaroo rat. He found one in someones brakes on their car while working on it. I thought it was a chinchilla also.
