Our chin Dusty just lost a whole wad of hair. It actually left a bald spot about 1/4" in diameter. he had a little bit of hair hanging from his rear, so i grabbed it and a WHOLE bunch came out. As in an unhealthy amount. I'm worried. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

If it came up when you grabbed it that is fur slip.  It is a defense mechanism they used in the wild.  If it is falling out by itself, you may want to look into it.

I don't even know how to describe about how much came out. They have fur slipped before, but never anything like this. And for how much came out, it should have taken some force, but if just fell out.

After a lot of web browsing, i agree. I am still fairly new to chinchillas, and i worry about them. It looks as though it was just a really bad fur slip. I didnt realize it could be that bad. Thank you though.
