Is this a good pellet diet?  Also he seems to eat more loose hay than pellets or hay cubes (he has both alfalfa and timothy cubes). Which are chins supposed to eat more of, timothy or alfalfa?

Chinchillas do tend to eat more loose hay than pellets.  That is ok.  That is a high protein content and I'm not a fan of corn in chinchilla feed, but this looks similar to the Mazuri Chinchilla feed which I recommend to people looking to buy from pet stores.
