2 days ago I lost a great friend, Loki. He was my second chinchilla to ever own and my first to lose. I'm taking this especially hard because if it wasn't for me he would still be with me and my other chinchilla, Zeze; I like to talk them into the bathroom because there are lots of ledges for them to climb on and room for them to jump, I looked at my phone to check something and Loki went under the door before I could stop him, I had forgotten to plug up the area under the door. The family dog happened to be passing by when Loki did this and went after him. While running Loki's heart stopped before our dog could catch him. I'm so sorry Loki, you'll always be in my heart forever.

I can't get the image to show up in this post, so for those who are interested here is a link to a picture of Loki.

i'm so sorry for you loss.  we all know how hard it is to handle.  but if i may add, please don't beat yourself up too much.. we all try to be super careful, but sometimes, we slip up, we are only human afterall.. you did your best to keep him safe.  unfortunately, sometimes horrible things just happen...  once before when i just had one, chinchin opened his cage door at night when i was sleeping and i had 2 bigs dogs at the time, i found fur all over the house, i thought for sure he was dead.. i was flipping.. when i put the dogs out, the little devil come out from hiding and was fine..  but point being, if he died, that would of been my fault too for not knowing the cage door lock didn't work, but again, we are all human and sometimes things just happen..

the pain will go away with time, but the memories will last your lifetime.

I am soo sorry for you loss.

I have only had my two chins for 3 yrs now. I haven't had to deal with them passing yet. My first guy broke his leg though and it was my fault. Lucky I found a great vet by me that was able to save his leg and let it heal.

I wouldn't bet yourself up about it.

How old was Loki?

You shouldn't feel bad. You did do everything for him. As for grieving, we are grieving also, in July we had our mini pom die Cry, we didn't even know she was sick, then at Christmas our other pom got really sick and wasn't expected to live, he is fine now but as I posted earlier we lost our American eskie so we are every upset at losing our dogs so sad. And like I said we didn't know how sick they were so sad speachless-scared.  So we are hopping for a better rest of the yea ::nod::r.  The pain does go away after some time hugs. I hope you will feel better, remember there is always someone else with a bigger problem then you Shocked.
Take care,

Me too Wink, thinking about Patchy and Maggie made me very sad. I will glad when I can think about them and not burst into tears. Also I meant there is someone else with a bigger problem than you have.
