i don't know if i'm the best qualified to answer that one.. but i think that would be okay.. i mean super pets leap n ledges are smaller than the size you mention, those i won't touch.. i'm a bit of an excessive worry wart, and i'm afraid they will slip, espeically cuz my cage is tall... thats why i have alot of longer ones.. but if your cage isn't an fn 142 with out the middle taking out, i'm sure you will be fine...

thanks i.ll post pictures tom. All we did was cut one of the shelves in half and kept one the same hight and put one lower. I really wanted 3 that were 5.5 inches, but we have 2 that i guess as 8.5, but my dad didn't think my cage was big enough for that.
