As I was reading your post I was thinking the two problems would be heat from the oven and hair and dust from the chin all over your kitchen where you cook. You can buy a digital thermometer at Wal-mart that remembers the highest and lowest temps for under $15. I would get one of those and sit it on top of the table in the kitchen corner for 24 hours as you bake. Check the high and low temp after the 24 hours and you will have a good idea how the oven will affect the space.
As for the hair and dust, that is a personal preference. I know the room my chinchillas are kept in keeps a thin layer of dust on it and hair is always clinging to something. It wouldn't be my choice for the kitchen, but if that is your only area I guess you have to do what you have to do.
