Jamie and I had the privilege to care for a very special chin ... her name was Little Girl ...
Each time Jamie would get out of breeding, she would send Little Girl to Virginia for me to take care of her ...
When Jamie started breeding again, she would go back to Jamie in S.C.
Three weeks ago, Little Girl fell asleep for the last time and headed for the Rainbow Bridge.
I'm sure she met up with many of her fellow chins she knew over the years.
We got to talking about her and realized she was about 23 or 24 years old or older.
Jamie got her as a retired breeder over 14 years ago, so she had all the love we could give her and didn't have to worry about having kits.
She would pick and choose who she would allow to scratch her and who would not...
She would raise her chin and cock her head slightly, paciently waiting.
She wasn't a cuddlier, but loved to have you stand and talk to her.
She always came to the front of the cage and would stand at her door, wanting to be acknowledged.
She wasn't one to demand, but showed appreciation of each kindness and treat she was given.
They say you never really die, as long as someone remembers you ...
If this is true, she still has many years to go.
We will will love and miss her ... for many years to come.

Added:
Below is a picture of her when she was in her late teens.
She never did look ''old''.   Smiley

I'm sorry for your loss...and agree...as long as you are remembered...your "memory" is carried on. I think it's great that she/Little Girl got to know both you and Jamie. And that she lived to be such a ripe ol' age. That was one of the reasons we went with chins for my son's pet. For longtivity with age. And the fact that we had them previously and knew what joy they can bring into your life. And it sounds as if Little Girl did just that while she was with you.

Again...I am sorry for your loss...but am fortunate to know through you...the love you felt for this special girl. And...She was just beautiful! And it sounds like...she lived the best life possible with ones who truely appreciated and understood her.

Thanks for sharing your tribute for Little Girl with us...May she happily roam Rainbow Bridge with chins that went before her... until you meet again~

OMG that's awesome over 23 years old, that is amazing.

I'm sure ye will miss her but what a great life she had, with 2 of the best slaves a chin could ask for.
It is a life to celebrate that's for sure.
We will remember them forever....

Precious Chinchilla in a Locket
 ...
...  Donna Sue Burk

Precious chinchilla in a  ...
...
that lays next to my heart
I will always  ...
...  you
As I did from the start.

You were right  ...
...  me
Through the darkest of my days
It was your kind and  ...
...  nature
That made me want to stay.

Now I  ...
...  you in my arms
Your breath still warm against  ...
...  hand
Our hearts still beat together
And I  ...
...  if you understand.

Through the hours that I held you
 ...
...  the light did leave your soul
I knew a way to keep you
 ...
...  in my hold.

I snipped the hair from  ...
...  your eyes
So I would always see
The beauty that surrounds me
 ...
...  in times of need.

I snipped the hair from  ...
...  your ears
So I would always hear
Music in the  ...
...
To quiet my fears.

I snipped the hair from across your  ...
...
To bring me strength in time of need
And the  ...
...  of your essence
Would always be with me.

I snipped the hair  ...
...  around your heart
That beat in time with  ...
...
So I would know that love would find me
At some distant  ...
... .

And so, your life slipped out of mine
On  ...
...  quiet, Winter like day
But I knew that a part of  ...
...
Was always here to stay.

Precious  ...
...  in a locket
That lays next to my heart
I  ...
...  always love you
Even though we had to  ...
... .

Thanks Donna for that beautiful poem. The anniversary of Donna's chins passing is coming up. We remember all we've loved and lost.

I am so sorry to hear about Little Girl, but she had a very good and long life. Little Girl was lucky that she had the two most loving and knowlegable caretakers possible. With the love and excellent care she lived longer than any chin I know. I am sure that she is at the Rainbow Bridge talking about all the good years of care she had.
