Hi, I'm Jane and have just joined this forum to show off, I mean tell you all about my beautiful chinnies!  Smiley I am 43 years old, married with a 10 year old daughter.

My 3 mischiefs are all female. Aristotle is a standard grey, not sure how old. In the pet shop they told me she was about 4 months old, I had her for 4 weeks and came down one morning to find 3 babies in her nest!!! (4 months old, yeah right!)  I rang the shop and said that chinchilla you sold me 4 weeks ago has had a litter and the voice on the other end said, " Oh are you the one that bought the pair and then brought one back?"  "Err no," said I," but that could explain things!" Anyway, one sadly died, she was much smaller and weaker than the other 2, one went to live with a friend of mine and one we kept.
Which leads me on to:
Maisy May, the worlds most mischievous chinnie. She was 1 year old last April, a beautiful silver colour, but always in trouble.
Finally there's Petal, a gorgeous ebony who is also 1 year old. I bought her from a breeder after seeing her advertised and  just couldn't resist. ( I love ebonies!) She is very shy but soooo cute and soft.

That is a familiar story here.   yes  Most pet stores can't tell the difference between male and female and never know the exact age.   Roll Eyes

Aristotle, Maisy May and Petal are all beautiful!

We're here if you need any help and we love pictures and tales of what they love to do/get into.   Smiley

Maisy May is a silver, not white mosaic. Her fur is white with grey all over, although the grey is more prominent on her tail, ears and face. Smiley

Sily!   Over here, Maisey May would be placed with the white mosaics in judging and would generally be referred to as a white mosaic at a show.    We do use the term silver, also, but with the picture shown Maisey May does look what we normally refer to as a white mosaic.

All countries have a different name for some of the chinchillas, within a group of mutations.  I believe there is a chin mutation revered to as "blue diamond" in the UK ... we do not use that term either.   Smiley

We have "chocolate" chinchillas that are technically a beige/ebony cross that is also called a tan or tan wrap.

Thanks for that information Jo Ann, it's interesting to know. In Britain silvers and white mosaics are classed as different colours altogether I think.
Maisy May's photo is a little deceiving, she may be slightly more grey than she looks!! Maybe this picture is more true to life!

Sily!  That last picture is a much truer version of her actual color.  Did you use a flash on the other picture and no flash on this picture? That + or - the distance can be very deceptive in pictures.

Is she silver tipped on all of her fur, or is there white fur and dark guard hairs on the lighter sections of her body?  Both are more rare than the regular white mosaics.
