EMPRESS SOUTHEAST UNIT MEETING

Ralph and Barbara Shoots will be our special guest!
They will be answering any questions regarding chinchillas!
This meeting will be for breeders, pet owners or for anyone who is interested in learning more about chinchillas!

We will be making plans for a possible Empress Show in the Fall of this year!!

I will announce the exact address of the meeting location ASAP!

     Is that right at the Unicoi State Part in northern GA on state 17 and state 75?

I hope we can come, but we have to be in Norfolk, VA on June 4th, so it's doubtful.     Have to wait and see.      Bill's been wanting to visit some friends in Atlanta ... help me think of some more good reasons to convince him!   

Hope you have a good crowd ... any time you are around Ralph and Barbara you can't help but learn more about chinchillas.

Yes, Jo Ann ....Helen, GA is near state 17 and state 75.  I know it seems to be out in the middle of no where, but when our little group met in Maggie Valley back in November; Helen, GA was the most centrally located town amongst the three people that attended (one being from TN, one from SC and one from AL).

We are going to try to have meetings in the middle of where everyone lives that participates.  This way it will be fair for everyone to drive about the same distance.  No favorites!

Janice, do you have a list of the hotels/motels in the area for those who may need to spend the night?

Darlene, you are in the middle of chinchilla country ... some of the biggest breeders are in your area, in the eastern part of the US.   There are meetings, field days and shows in Ohio several times a year ... Empress and M.C.B.A. chapters are all around you.

Our ECBC Southeast Unit Meeting we will held in a cabin located at 187 Ber Weg; which is located in downtown Helen, GA.  The lady described it to me as being directly behind Paul's Steakhouse.

HI Jo Ann,

The gathering in Helen, GA is going to be a meeting not a show this time.  We need to get organized and then plan a Field Day/Show.

A couple of subjects that Ralph will be discussing is 1.. how to ear tag a chinchilla.  All chinchillas have to be ear tagged when showing in an Empress Show. 2.. Swabbing a female... how, why, and when to do this.

I am sure there are other questions that people will come up with.  No matter how stupid people think their questions are...they need to be asked!  This will be a learning experience for all.

We will try to schedule (I am sure it will be tentative) a show for this coming fall.

If you would like supplies from Ralph and Barbara I am sure they would be more than happy to bring them.  You will need to contact them directly.

I don't know if Ralph and Barbara will be bringing any of their animals.  I know several people which are attending will be bringing their own animals to ask Ralph for his opinion.
I, myself, will be bringing at least two.

10:30 - 11:30AM - Officer Meeting - Unit business - Open to all interested.

11:30 - 12:00PM - Break for Lunch Preparation

12:00 - 1:30PM - Lunch at the Cabin. This is for everyone! This will be a "Pot Luck/Covered Dish" lunch. Please PM me about what you can bring so we can coordinate the menu.

1:30 - 3:00PM - Open Eduational meeting with Ralph & Barbara Shoots.

3:00 - 3:30PM - Afternoon Break

3:30 - 5:00PM - Continued of educational meeting with the Shoots.

This is an tentative schedule of the days event. However, the entire meeting is very informal and times may not be exact. I am posting this to give everyone an idea of the day's events so that all thinking of attending can plan accordingly.

To Everyone Interested... We are hoping for a good turnout at this meeting. If you are still thiking about it and can possibly work it out, please try to attend. There is no cost for this meeting except for your own travel expenses. This is a very important meeting that basically will be the beginning of our new unit. There is much to be discussed and important decisions to be made. The more voices we have there the better for the unit overall.

Having Ralph and Barbara Shoots is an added benefit for those attanding. They are also there to be strong and knowledgeable guides to help get this unit off the ground. We plan to have lots of fun and pick up some great knowledge from the Shoots.

Helen, Ga is a neat town and the cabin we have reserved for the meeting is very nice and located right in the downtown area. If you can take the time out, if you can make the trip, please come. I know you'll be glad you did! We can't wait to meet everyone.

Yeah!!!!! The Meeting weekend is coming!!   

I talked with the lady from the cabin rental company....this weekend is a HOT AIR BALLOON FESTIVAL!!! She said that the balloons hover above the town and that it is a beautiful sight.


If any of you want to contribute food for lunch....please email or PM me with what you will be bringing.

So far we have drinks, tuna salad w/crackers, chicken wings or fingers, cole slaw, chocolate cake, cookies, and possibly hot dogs. There is a grill at the cabin so we can cook out!

I need to know a count so we can purchase hot dogs and buns! So please let me know before Friday morning!!

Can't wait to meet everyone!!  The 4 J's - Jim, Janice, Joseph and Jacob
