i just got home for the night and found star in the cage dead. she had some swelling on her tail a few days ago, but that is my only clue. since she was with my other chins do i need to take her to the vet to find out what happened??

A necropsy is the only way to find out what happened but if she was not frozen after death there is no point to send her body in as it starts decomposing internally immediatly after death. I would watch the other two for signs of a problem.
