custom cage
« on: May 24, 2008, 01:20:39 PM »

I'm thinking I'm going to give my babies home a bit of a renovation, adding a few feet to the top. Does anyone know how to remove those little clamps tho that hold the cage together? I think they are c rings. Need to remove part of the top to add the extra room to it.

a small pair of needle nose pliers shoudl do the trick.  You just insert them into the ring and sort of twist it until it comes open.

Yes, the needle nose is a good tool to try.  You could also try a small enough screw driver to fit snuggly in the C-ring.  Just keep trying to push it through & should push it open.  Good luck.  We're just workers of all trades, aren't we?   JANE rofl

You can purchase different gauge wire at the hardware store.  Not sure what guage your existing cage is made from.  Sometimes it is difficult to bend the wire to the shape you want & difficult to make it hold its shape.  And if you are cutting pieces with wire cutters, you need to make sure you file each end so that you don't have any sharp edges.  Don't miss any, cause if you do, that's just the one they will find.....don't we know it!!  They don't miss a trick  :D Almost would be better to start a new cage, I think, than to add to one.  Or purchase another if funds allow.  Maybe use the one you have now for a maternity cage if it is suitable for one.     JANE
