Eating poops
« on: April 23, 2008, 06:17:22 AM »

Sorry guys! I didn't want to have to post this...but I couldn't find anything on the forum regarding poop eating. My chin will sit there and eat like 5 in a row, all of which she pulls "fresh" from her behind! ::puke:: Is this normal behavior or should I be concerned??

With rabbits, they sometimes don't get all the nutrience out of their food, so they 'ahem' eat it again, just to make sure.

The bacteria in their poo is very important to their well-being.  Amazing the adaptation animals (an humans) take throughout their existence.

There are times when I think my chins are so smart......and then they pick up a pooh and eat it.

When I was researching them  before I got them, I read they have two kinds of poop, one that's softer that they re-disgest for enzymes or something  ::think::  I've never noticed them doing it, but I was prepared to accept it when I adopted them.   ???

I CAN NOT believe that you have never noticed them eating their poop? It is a regular as the sun!  I currently have 5 chins but have had 11 total and every one of them did this!  It is definitely a normal activity.   ;)

I was thinking about this last night, and I think it's because they hide it.  When they were in my office they always got drawers open and found papers and things that I had to get away from them.  There have been occasions when they're chewing on something, and I couldn't figure out what they got their hands on,, and they just ran from me knowing that I often take things away.  They're way too smart.

Grrr. Cheech now has a habit of eating bits of the carpet. She goes behind the curtain and picks bits up and I have to chase her all over to get them. I think she loves it! Well she keeps on doing it even though she knows I'll chase her. And she only does it from one spot. She certainly doesn't hide it and she's never hidden eating her poops. She lies on her back and grabs them, there's no better way of saying this, fresh and eats them in front of us. Such a lady, not. :D
