do you mean like with a q tip or just a napkin? cause i had to use a washcloth gently on my snowball when I first got him cause his ears were brown and not pink like they were supposed to be but i never cleaned deep down inside of mine cause they are still not used to humans that much I am finally getting my Buddy L to warm up to me and I have had him for a year.  but I also think that you shouldn't clean the inside of their ears cause you shouldn't do that to cats they do make ear drops for that.  probably for chins too  :chin:

::silly:: :doh: Using Vaseline, will leave a moist film over anything it touches and will collect more dust, dirt and debris than it gets rid of.

 ::nono:: I would never put anything into a chin's ear.  If they need to be cleaned, let your vet do it ... or you may end-up with a deaf chinchilla when you bust it's ear drum when he moves suddenly.

Unless a vet tells you to put something in your chins ear, I would strongly advise against it!

If a chin is exceptionally dirty, daily dust baths will get it clean, eventually.

::silly:: Hi MissKitz,

You're a vet's assistant at 14?  My, my they are training them young these days.  ;)

 It is great that he taught you the dos and don'ts about cleaning a chinchilla's ear, but, I don't know if  ::) Chinnie Grl has had the same privilege of learning all the dos and don'ts.  ::shrug::

 Don't you think it might be a bit dangerous to tell someone to

I agree withe Jo Ann I have to cats and when I got the second one from a shelter in a pet store I took him to my vet for a check up so my other one didn't get sick just incase and he noticed that he had ear mites and he gave me drops and told me to use a paper towl to wipe them after I dropped the ear drops in to remove the brown gunk and not to use a q tip cause that could damae thier ears and a chin is much small than a cat and more active I think so it is just too risky
