doh!  Thanks to everyone who wrote.

It turned out that I was just being an over anxious new parent.

My little sweetie got a clean bill of health from the vet.

Thanks

I have never had any experience with this, but I would suggest calling a vet if you are unsure what to do. They can possibly give you advice over the phone or have you bring him in.

How long has it been out, is it discolored or purplish? Sometimes checking for a hair ring makes them a little randy and you can't get it to go back in. If it's still out check inside the sheth again, it might not nessasarily be a hair ring but there could be some other iritant in there like a piece of wood chip. If it doesn't go back to normal keep it moist and get him to a vet.

Sometimes there is a tricky little hair ring and it is not easily found.  It is actually way down at the very base of the penis.  Poor little guy, he must be uncomfortable.  I have only dealt with one "penis situation" in my herd.  It turned out to be a nasty hair ring.  We took him to the vet because at the time I was inexperienced.  If I were you, I would get him to the vet.  They are experienced to do a hair ring check and get his penis back in.  They may want to put a topical antibiotic on it too to help prevent any infection.

Sily!Hi Chinderella,

If you have not worked with a fur ring before, you might want to get the vet to show you how the first time.  Do not use Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly, it will make a mess of things.  Neosporin or a triple antibiotic is much better ... it soaks into the skin and does not cause such a mess with the fur.

You say it will not go back in ... Is this because it is swollen or because it is 'bent'?  These are two completely different problems.  Swelling and redness usually mean fur ring or infection.
The 'bent' is called peronies (sp) and is where it is actually bent/broken.  Usually, this is not repairable if it is bad and is caused whey the couple do not disengage properly.

I will post a picture below of the peronies.

 Hello!
Jo Ann

                        Cheesy

Ya I bet Null.
My Cody with teeth troubles got so bad one time he wasn't cleaning. His little thingy was out and dry, and wouldn't go back.
It took some doing, ointment and trims on his teeth so he could clean it. It did go back, and it's fine.
